Standard maximum is 16 weeks (reduced from 26 effective 2022). If the claimant's last employer permanently closed/went out of business, up to 26 weeks. Maximum benefit amount = lesser of 16x WBA or 1/3 of base-period wages (26x or 1/2 for business-closure claims). Not rate-indexed.
Iowa has a one-week unpaid waiting period before benefits begin.
This is an estimate, not a determination. The state agency calculates your actual benefit from your full base-period wage record, and eligibility also depends on why your job ended and your ongoing work search.
Your weekly benefit is based on your wages in the "base period" (usually the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters), replaced at roughly 57% up to Iowa's $622 maximum. Eligibility also depends on earning enough in the base period and on why your job ended (generally you must be out of work through no fault of your own). How Iowa Calculates Your Weekly Benefit
WBA = highest-quarter base-period wages / a divisor that depends on number of dependents: /23 (0 dependents), /22 (1), /21 (2), /20 (3), /19 (4 or more). Lower divisor = higher benefit. Each tier has its own max.
The result is capped at Iowa's $622 maximum and floored at its $87 minimum (2026). You can collect for up to 16 weeks.
Dependents: Built into the divisor and the max, NOT a flat add-on. Max WBA by dependents (FY2026, eff. July 6, 2025): 0 dep = $622, 1 dep = $646, 2 dep = $669, 3 dep = $704, 4+ dep = $763. Up to 4 dependents; must be declared within 10 days of filing the initial claim.

Wages in at least two quarters of the base period; at least $2,140 in the highest quarter AND at least $1,070 in a different quarter; total base-period wages of at least 1.25x the highest-quarter wages.
