Leyes de grabación en escuelas de Ohio: aulas, reuniones de IEP y vigilancia

Actualizaciones

Clarified that secretly recording a student in a restroom or locker room is a felony only when the student is a minor (a misdemeanor for an adult), retitled the camera-location section to match the absence of a statutory list, and added the emergency-plan exception to the school phone-policy rule.

We added Ohio's statewide school cell phone rule (ORC 3313.753, in force since January 1, 2026) and SB 29's limits on schools monitoring device cameras and microphones (ORC 3319.327), clarified that being in a classroom does not make a student a party to other people's conversations, and replaced an overstated statutory camera-location ban with what Ohio's voyeurism law actually prohibits.

Clarified that Ohio's student data privacy law is Senate Bill 29 of the 135th General Assembly (effective October 24, 2024). The bill number SB 29 now belongs to an unrelated, current-session bill, so the page previously pointed readers to the wrong law if they searched the number alone. Also removed an unconfirmed short title for the law.
