Maine Windshield Mounting Laws (2026 Guide)

Updates

Corrected the handheld-device fine description (no three-year lookback applies), noted that the hands-free law has been amended once since 2019, updated the LD 145 committee history to the official dates, added the two-mirror condition to the rear-window tint rules, removed a certificate exemption that belongs to the tint statute rather than the obstruction statute, and repointed two statute links to the correct sections.

Removed an invented windshield-obstruction fine for snow and ice (there is no such clause in 29-A MRSA 2082) and cited the real, differently-scoped snow/ice statute instead, and corrected a misattributed bill number for the 2023 fine-increase proposal (LD 145, not LD 224).
