The dollar ceiling is not universal, and the difference is worth knowing. A railroad, corporation, partnership, individual employer, or political subdivision of the state may pay up to $2,500 this way. Where the employer is the State of Georgia itself, the statute says it is lawful for the state to pay all of the sums due to its deceased employee, not just the first $2,500.
