What Happened

Between March 1, 2021 and April 10, 2026, Resident Home LLC sold mattresses and bedding through five of its own house brands: SienaSleep, NectarSleep, DreamCloudSleep, CloverLane and AwaraSleep. A lawsuit filed in the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego, Regina Molloy v. Resident Home, LLC (case number 25CU057416N), claims the company advertised prices on those sites as marked down from a higher "reference" or "original" price, when that higher price did not reflect a real, sustained selling price for the product.

That practice has a name regulators use: fictitious former pricing. It is the same tactic the California Attorney General warns shoppers about with outlet-store "compare at" tags, where a crossed-out number next to the sale price implies a temporary discount off a genuine prior price, when in fact the item may never have sold at that higher number. Resident Home has not admitted wrongdoing. The company agreed to resolve the claims through a class settlement rather than continue litigating.
