Rhode Island Dashcam Laws: Mounting, Audio, and Evidence Rules (2026)

Dashcams are legal in Rhode Island. No state law prohibits dashboard cameras. Audio recording follows one-party consent under R.I. Gen. Laws § 11-35-21.
Mount cameras to avoid obstructing your view. Dashcam footage is valuable evidence for accidents, insurance claims, hit and runs, and traffic stops. Officers cannot order you to turn off your dashcam. The First Circuit has affirmed recording rights in public.
Commercial drivers should follow FMCSA regulations. Ride-share drivers can use dashcams; check platform policies.
