A full Tasmanian licence is suspended at 12 or more demerit points, counted over a rolling 3 year window. A provisional or learner licence is held to a much lower 4 point threshold, counted over a shorter 12 month window. This lookup checks your point total against the threshold for your licence class.

12 points below the threshold
A Tasmania full licence driver is suspended at 12 demerit points (points counted over a rolling 3-year period). You are currently 12 points below that.
See Tasmania demerit points for the full ladder and offence values, and confirm your official standing with Department of State Growth (Transport Tasmania).
This tool compares a demerit-point total against the published suspension threshold for the chosen licence class in each Australian state and territory. It does not access your driving record, and the exact points against you depend on the offences as recorded, your licence class and the accrual window. Only your state or territory licensing authority can confirm your official standing. This is general information, not legal advice, and RecordingLaw.com is not a government body or a law firm.
Thresholds by Licence
The point total that triggers action depends on the licence you hold. These are the Tasmania limits the lookup applies.
| Licence | Threshold | How points are counted |
|---|---|---|
| Full licence | 12 points | Points counted over a rolling 3-year period |
| Provisional or learner | 4 points | Points counted over any 12-month period |
How the demerit threshold and window work in Tasmania
A full Tasmanian licence is suspended at 12 or more demerit points, counted over a rolling 3 year window.
A provisional or learner licence is held to a much lower 4 point threshold, and that total is counted over a 12 month window rather than 3 years.
What happens once you reach the threshold
Once a full licence reaches 12 to 15 points, the suspension is 3 months. It rises to 4 months at 16 to 19 points, and to 5 months at 20 or more points.
A provisional or learner licence that reaches 4 to 15 points within its 12-month window faces a 3-month suspension, rising to 4 months at 16 to 19 points and 5 months at 20 or more.
The period of good behaviour
Tasmania's period of good behaviour is available to full licence holders only, not to provisional or learner licence holders.
It runs for 12 months from the start date of the suspension the driver would otherwise have served. The tolerance is exactly one demerit point, so a second point during the period breaches it.
Breaching the period of good behaviour means serving a suspension of twice the original suspension period.
How points are counted and when they are recorded
Demerit points in Tasmania are calculated from the date of the offence, not the date of conviction.
Offences you have not yet paid, or that are still going to court, do not yet show in your recorded total.
How to check your points
Transport Tasmania says you can check your demerit points by calling Service Tasmania on 1300 13 55 13. The total shows only points already recorded, not offences that are unpaid or still before a court.
What this lookup does not do
This tool checks a point total against the suspension threshold for a licence class. It does not show how many points a specific offence carries, and it does not replace confirming your position with Transport Tasmania or Service Tasmania.
For offence-level detail and the full Tasmania rules, see Tasmania demerit points. To compare every state and territory, use the all-states demerit points lookup.
