Traffic Ticket Lookup by State
Pick the state that issued your ticket and what you want to do: look it up, pay it, contest it, or find out about traffic school. You get the official court or state page for that step, not a third-party payment site. Covers all 50 states and DC; runs in your browser and stores nothing.

Where a traffic ticket is handled
A traffic ticket is handled by the court or office named on it, not by the police officer who wrote it. Which court or office that is depends on the state and on where you were stopped: a state, county, city or justice court, and in a few places an administrative bureau (in New York City and DC, that bureau is part of the DMV).
28 jurisdictions run a statewide online lookup that covers traffic cases, and 41 run a statewide payment portal (some only for participating courts). Everywhere else, the court printed on the ticket is the place to look it up and pay.
Paying a ticket usually ends the case as a conviction or a finding that you committed the infraction, and the result is reported to the agency that keeps your driving record. That is why the tool shows the contest route and any traffic-school option next to the payment link: paying the ticket by itself, without first asking for one of those options, normally ends them. In some states the traffic-school option is chosen when you pay; the state page says how.

Pay or fight: what to check first
Before you pay, check three things on the ticket and on the state page: the date you must respond by, whether the violation carries points in your state, and whether the court offers traffic school, a deferral or a dismissal for your violation.
To contest a ticket you usually plead not guilty, or ask for a hearing, by the response date, and the court or bureau sets a hearing. Some states allow a trial by written declaration or a mail-in contest; the state pages say where the official sources describe one. For what points will do to your license, use the license points lookup.
A red-light or speed-camera ticket that arrives by mail is often a civil notice to the vehicle owner, handled differently from a ticket an officer hands you. See traffic camera ticket laws by state.
What this tool does not do
- It does not search for your ticket or read any court record: it sends you to the official site that can.
- It does not collect your name, license number, plate or citation number.
- It does not tell you whether to pay or fight. The deadline and options on your ticket control; if anything here differs from your ticket or the court, follow the court.
- Fine amounts are set by statute, court schedules and local add-ons, so this tool does not estimate a fine.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I look up a traffic ticket?
Use the court named on the ticket. 28 jurisdictions have a statewide online case lookup that includes traffic cases; elsewhere each court runs its own. Pick your state in the tool to get the official link.
Can I pay a traffic ticket online?
Often, yes, but only through the court or state. 41 jurisdictions have a statewide payment portal (some only for participating courts); in the rest, the court on your ticket handles payment. Sites that charge a fee to pay for you are not the court.
Does paying a traffic ticket mean pleading guilty?
In most states, paying a traffic ticket counts as a plea of guilty or no contest, or as an admission that you committed the infraction, and the result is usually reported to the agency that keeps your driving record. Check the state page for what your state’s sources say before you pay.
What happens if I miss the deadline on a traffic ticket?
Depending on the state, a missed deadline can lead to added fees, a default conviction, a license suspension for failure to appear or pay, or a warrant. Each state page lists the consequence its official sources describe.
Can I take traffic school instead of paying a ticket?
Some states and courts offer traffic school, defensive driving, a deferral or a dismissal for eligible tickets. Each state page says what its official sources describe; if yours lists nothing, ask the court on your ticket.
