A full-time Ontario employee working 37.5 hours a week: at the $17.60 rate in force until September 30, 2026, that is $660.00 a week (37.5 x $17.60), $1,320.00 every two weeks and $34,320 over 52 weeks, before tax. At the $17.95 rate from October 1, 2026, the same hours pay $673.13 a week, about $35,000 a year. Overtime and vacation pay are on top of this.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which minimum wage applies to me, provincial or federal?
Most workers are covered by the province or territory where they work. The federal minimum wage applies to federally regulated employers such as banks, airlines, interprovincial trucking and telecom companies, and if the provincial or territorial rate where you usually work is higher, the employer must pay the higher rate.
When does the minimum wage go up?
It depends on where you work. In 2026 the federal rate, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Yukon changed on April 1, Quebec on May 1, British Columbia on June 1, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut on September 1, and Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan on October 1. Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island have two 2026 dates, April 1 and October 1, and PEI rises again on April 1, 2027. Alberta has no scheduled increase.
Which province has the highest minimum wage?
Nunavut has the highest rate in Canada, at $20.17 an hour since September 1, 2026. Among the provinces, British Columbia is highest at $18.25. Alberta and Saskatchewan are the lowest.
Is the monthly figure exact?
No. It is an average: 52 weeks of pay divided by 12. Your actual pay per month depends on how many pay days fall in it.
Does this tool store what I enter?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
