Uses a point system
Wisconsin
Wisconsin applies demerit points to the driving record for certain traffic convictions, and 12 or more points within a 12-month period (counted by violation date) suspends the driving privilege.
Other consequences
Holders of a probationary license or instruction permit, and unlicensed drivers, are assessed double demerit points on the second and later convictions (except mainly vehicle-equipment violations under Chapter 347).
Other consequences
Drivers signed up for eNotify who reach 6 to 11 points within 12 months get a warning by email or text; point suspension notices are sent by mail.
Other consequences
A driver suspended only for points may be eligible for an occupational driver license.
How long points count
Points count for as long as the conviction stays on the record, and the violation dates decide whether 12 or more points fall in any 12-month period. Most convictions can be removed five years after the conviction date; alcohol-related convictions stay indefinitely.
Point reduction or driver improvement
An approved in-person traffic safety course at a Wisconsin technical college reduces the point total by 3, with only one reduction in a three-year period; there are no approved online courses for point reduction. A driver already suspended at 12, 13 or 14 points may have the suspension released after the course.

What this page does not do
- It does not read your driving record. Only Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles can confirm your current total.
- It does not predict a suspension: levels count only convictions inside each window, and the agency decides.
- It does not cover commercial (CDL) disqualifications or DUI suspensions, which follow separate rules.
