Uses a point system
Utah
Utah assesses points on a scale of roughly 35 to 80 per moving violation conviction. Adults with 200 or more points in three years, or drivers 20 and under with 70 or more, may be suspended.
Other consequences
Serious violations such as driving under the influence carry mandatory suspension or revocation and are not part of the points system.
Other consequences
The points for a violation may vary by more or less than 10% depending on the severity of the citation.
How long points count
Points for each conviction are removed automatically three years after the violation date. One full year without a moving violation conviction removes half the points, and two successive years removes all of them.
Point reduction or driver improvement
A Driver License Division-approved Defensive Driving Course, through the Utah Safety Council or National Safety Council, reduces points by a maximum of 50 and may be used once every three years.

What this page does not do
- It does not read your driving record. Only Utah Driver License Division can confirm your current total.
- It does not predict a suspension: levels count only convictions inside each window, and the agency decides.
- It does not cover commercial (CDL) disqualifications or DUI suspensions, which follow separate rules.
