Uses a point system
New Hampshire
New Hampshire assesses 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 demerit points per conviction, and points totaled by calendar year (based on the violation date) can lead to a suspension of up to 3 months, 6 months or 1 year, with lower thresholds for drivers under 21 and under 18.
Other consequences
Before a points suspension, the department sends notice to appear and holds a hearing; a suspension of 6 months or more also requires proof of financial responsibility.
Other consequences
The DMV mails warning letters as point convictions are posted, but not receiving one does not prevent action against the license.
Other consequences
When two or more convictions come from a single incident, points are assessed for only one offense, the one with the higher value.
How long points count
The violation date, not the conviction date, decides which calendar year the points count toward. Points appear on a certified copy of the record for three years from the violation date.
Point reduction or driver improvement
A driver with at least 3 points who completes an approved driver improvement course or driver attitude course has the most recent point total reduced by 3 points, for suspension purposes only. The reduction is limited to 3 points in any 3 complete consecutive calendar years.

What this page does not do
- It does not read your driving record. Only New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles can confirm your current total.
- It does not predict a suspension: levels count only convictions inside each window, and the agency decides.
- It does not cover commercial (CDL) disqualifications or DUI suspensions, which follow separate rules.
