Uses a point system
Georgia
Georgia DDS adds points to a license on conviction of certain violations, and a driver with 15 points in a 24-month period has the license suspended. Drivers under 18 are suspended at 4 points in 12 months.
Other consequences
A driver under 21 is suspended on conviction of any single offense worth 4 or more points (such as speeding 24 mph or more over, aggressive driving, or unlawfully passing a school bus), and for DUI, based on age on the conviction date.
Other consequences
A first points suspension can be reinstated as soon as an approved defensive driving course is completed.
Other consequences
No points are added for speeding less than 15 mph over the limit or for driving too fast for conditions.
How long points count
For the 15-point suspension, points are counted by offense date over any consecutive 24-month period.
Point reduction or driver improvement
Completing a certified Driver Improvement (defensive driving) course can reduce up to 7 points, once every 5 years. The original certificate goes to a DDS Customer Service Center or by mail.

What this page does not do
- It does not read your driving record. Only Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) can confirm your current total.
- It does not predict a suspension: levels count only convictions inside each window, and the agency decides.
- It does not cover commercial (CDL) disqualifications or DUI suspensions, which follow separate rules.
