Uses a point system
Florida
Florida assigns points to moving-violation convictions under Fla. Stat. 322.27. Accumulating 12 points within 12 months, 18 within 18 months, or 24 within 36 months brings a suspension of up to 30 days, 3 months, or 1 year.
Other consequences
When a driver reaches the danger zone, the department may send a warning letter that further convictions may lead to suspension.
Other consequences
Three points are deducted from the record of a driver whose license was suspended only once under the point system and has been reinstated.
Other consequences
A hardship license during a points suspension, and full reinstatement afterward, require proof of an Advanced Driver Improvement (ADI) course and a reinstatement fee.
How long points count
Points remain on the driver record for at least five years from the conviction date. The suspension windows are computed using the offense date of each conviction.
Point reduction or driver improvement
For an eligible noncriminal traffic infraction, a driver may elect a basic driver improvement course instead of a court appearance; adjudication is withheld and points are not assessed. The election is not allowed if one was made in the preceding 12 months, and no more than eight are allowed in a lifetime. It is not available to commercial license or permit holders, or for speeding 30 mph or more over the limit.

What this page does not do
- It does not read your driving record. Only Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) can confirm your current total.
- It does not predict a suspension: levels count only convictions inside each window, and the agency decides.
- It does not cover commercial (CDL) disqualifications or DUI suspensions, which follow separate rules.
