DC DMV assesses points for moving violations, not for parking or photo tickets. A total of 10 or 11 points means a 90-day suspension, and 12 or more points means revocation.

Point reduction or driver improvement

For a DC moving violation, a DMV hearing examiner may approve, at their discretion, an online defensive driving course to keep the points off the record. The ticket must be contested by mail with a request that the points be waived; the violation still appears on the record but the points do not.
