Uses a point system
Delaware
Delaware DMV's Problem Driver Program assigns points for moving-violation convictions and acts on calculated points: an advisory letter at 8, a required course (or 2-month suspension) at 12, and mandatory suspensions of 4 to 12 months from 14 points up.
Other consequences
A single conviction for driving 25 mph or more over the limit brings a one-month suspension, plus one more month for each additional 5 mph. A conviction for 20-24 mph over brings an advisory letter.
Other consequences
An occupational license is not issued while calculated points are 15 or more in a 24-month period.
Other consequences
For Class D license holders, a first speeding ticket of 1 to 14 mph over within any 3-year period may carry no points if paid as a guilty mail-in or online. CDL holders receive points.
How long points count
Points count at full value for 12 months from the violation date, then at half value for the next 12 months. DMV actions are based on the total calculated points.
Point reduction or driver improvement
DMV may treat an approved defensive driving course as a three-point credit when calculating penalties. The credit applies only to future violations, in certain circumstances, does not remove existing points, and the course stays valid for three years.

What this page does not do
- It does not read your driving record. Only Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (Driver Improvement) can confirm your current total.
- It does not predict a suspension: levels count only convictions inside each window, and the agency decides.
- It does not cover commercial (CDL) disqualifications or DUI suspensions, which follow separate rules.
